Proclamation from the City of Worcester

WHEREAS: The Jewish day of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, corresponding this year to June 29th, is the 1st yahrtzeit of Rabbi Hershel Fogelman, of blessed memory.

WHEREAS:  Rabbi Hershel Fogelman, an emissary of the Lubavitch Rebbes, Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneerson and Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of blessed memory, the world Jewish leader who arrived in the USA on this day 73 years ago, 28 days in the month of Sivan, and whose yahrtzeit is the 3rd of Tammuz, which corresponds this year to July 1st.

WHEREAS: As an emissary of the Lubavitch Rebbes, Rabbi Hershel Fogelman carried out his mission in educating Jewish children, men, and women in the knowledge of Torah in an exemplary fashion, with an unparalleled example of goodness and kindness.

WHEREAS: Today there are hundreds of students who graduated from Yeshiva Achei Tmimim and are contributing members and leaders of the communities in which they live.

WHEREAS: We give gratitude to Rabbi Hershel Fogelman for his inspiration, for his message to incorporate G‑dliness in our daily lives, for his teaching that the seven Noahide commandments were divinely transmitted to Moses by G‑d for all mankind, as a spiritual foundation for a just and humane society.

WHEREAS: We acknowledge and thank Rabbi Hershel Fogelman for establishing, for all citizens of our beloved city, G‑d bless them all, a beautiful symbol of freedom and light known as the Public Chanukah Menorah, and celebrate its lighting at Newton Square each year with the participation of all city and state officials.

Now THEREFORE, I, Mayor Joseph M. Petty, do hereby proclaim this day, the Hebrew date of Rosh Chodesh Taamuz, will be forever known by the citizens of Worcester, as Rabbi Hershel Fogelman Day of Good Deeds and Acts of Kindness.

AND on this day we do an extra act of kindness to one another to honor the leadership and genuine kindness of Rabbi Hershel Fogelman.

In the City of Worcester and encourage all residents to recognize and participate in its observance.
